The journey to establish ICSR started in 1981 when Mr. S.O.A. Ozomah, a veteran professional secretary muted the idea of establishing a professional body for secretarial and reportorial profession, which he vigorously and dedicatedly pursued.  He was at every stage supported by Chief A.I. Adewunmi – a management consultant of international repute.  Invitations were sent to over 200 organizations in March 1981 requesting practicing secretaries and verbatim reporters to join the Institute.  As a result, Messrs D.A. Odesina, J.A. Oguma and Louis Ekpah embraced the idea and had worked relentlessly to make the Institute a reality ever since.  These are the pillars and foundation members of the Institute which has now grown from a humble beginning to an International professional body.    In June 1985, an 11-man Advisory Council headed by Alhaji Aliko Mohammed, OFR, FCSR, Dan Iyan Misua Kaduna, was inaugurated.  Members of that Council selflessly worked day and night to elevate the Institute.  After 10 years of existence, the Advisory Council was replaced by a 15-member Governing Board under the Chairmanship of Chief Abayomi I. Adewunmi FCSR 1997-2002, Elder S.B.S. Abuh FCSR, First professional President/Chairman 2002-2004, Mrs Rosemary I. Ajufo FCSR, current President/Chairman.  The Governing Board is the policy making organ of the Institute.
